Almost no M1Ds were manufactured or distributed to combat zones during World War II. After World War 2 copies of sniper rifles M/91-30 were manufactured also in Hungary in 1949 - 1965. During World War captured M/91-30 sniper rifles and their scopes saw extensive use with German military and its allies. The cone-shaped flash hider on the M1C was replaced by a slender barrel extension. The Soviets manufactured some 275,250 sniper rifles equipped with PU scopes between 1942 - 1958. They are today the most common German scopes (and scoped rifles) of World War Two, and reproductions have also been made. A knurled screw allowed the mount with the scope to be easily removed. Production would continue right to the end of the war, with over 100,000 of these optics being made. It would not be until the summer of 1944 that the K98k-ZF41 was finally classified as a rifle suitable for anyone in the infantry. What scopes did Germany use in WW2 Scopes were usually Zielvier, which stands for 4X. So, the K98k with ZF-41 was used as a substitute sniper’s rifle – much to the chagrin of those new snipers who found its 1.5x magnification and very narrow field of view sub-par. Instead, by the time the scopes were ready for use, those fully-trained snipers were deemed a higher priority, and there were insufficient regulations ZF-39 type scopes in production to equip all the snipers being put through sniper school. It was initially envisioned as mounting to the G41(M) and G41(W) rifles, although this never actually happened. To fill this need, development of what would become the ZF-40 and ZF-41 scope was started. So the Kar98 was one of my favorite guns to use in older CoD games. This would be a man with the best shooting skills of the unit, but not actually a fully trained sniper, and he should be equipped with a light and simple optical sight, for shooting at small targets like pillbox ports or sandbagged machine gun nests. For Call of Duty: WWII on the PlayStation 4, a GameFAQs message board topic titled. One of the pieces of feedback the German military got form he invasion of Poland in 1939 was a desire for a squad-level designated marksman in each unit. From bolt-action Springfield 1903’s to M1 Garand to M1 carbine to M16 and many more, American rifles continue to develop and evolve. Bruce Jackson, "On the M1D and M84", Fulton Armory and Bruce Canfield, "M1C Garand Sniper Rifle", American Rifleman, Aug. US Rifles have come a long way since the early 19th century. Very few M1C saw combat, in the Pacific in the last days of the war and all apparently with M81/M82 scopes the M84 was not used in combat in the war. M83 was standardized, but not produced, then the M84 was standardized in April 1945, which was 2.2X power and intended to replace the M81/M82. Scopes were all Lyman Alaskan types, the M73 standardized in October 1944, which was later re-designated M81, followed by M82. M1D was also standardized, but no production was undertaken. The optics are excellent and clear with no clouding or scratches (rare to find optics in this condition). Total to end of August 1945 was 6,896, with another 1,075 to the end of the year. Leather optic covers are in excellent condition. However, for the time these scopes were considered to be the cutting edge of individual warfare and contributed to the kill rates of legendary snipers such as Lyudmila Pavlichenko of the Soviet Union, who retains the world record among female snipers to this day. Despite the obvious technological advances war inevitably gives rise to, the scopes of the day appear hopelessly antiquated compared to modern sniper optics. #SCOPES DURING WW2 SERIAL#The M1C rifle was standardized 27 July 1944, but first production pilots were completed in November (5) and December (6) and serial production began in January 1945 (343). Sniper rifle technology was still relatively primitive during World War II. III, (2nd ed.), (Washington, D.C.: Office of the Chief of Ordnance, Technical Division, 1944), p. Catalogue of Standard Ordnance Items Vol. Both Weaver and Lyman telescopes have internal adjustments permitting exceedingly precise changes of elevation and windage. The hairs used are of medium weight and subtend not more than one minute of angle. Both are supplied with crosshair reticles. Ottway Leather Wrapped, With Box & Antique Finish 129.
